All religions actually are the same in essence

One perspective on this topic is that religions may appear different and have different cultural trappings associated with them, but all religions are the same in their essence. Given the role of religion in history, culture ethics, and more, what an important topic! 

There are at least two things someone might mean by saying all religions are the same in their essence. 

One person would assume there is no supernatural reality and so all religions are equally invalid because they are all basically a cultural construct. 

Another person would assume there is only one supernatural reality and all religions get there, and so they are all equally valid.
